The Boys & Girls Club of Wisconsin Rapids

Programs

The Boys & Girls Club of Wisconsin Rapids

area provides a nationally renowned Youth Development Strategy for local children with programs that enhance:

A Sense of Belonging: The Club is a place kids can call their own. It is a place where a child can be a child, and though there are rules, kids can run, play and make choices about the activities in which they participate.

A Sense of Competence: The Club gives kids responsibility for helping others, taking care of their Club and being leaders. Being at home alone does not provide this important growth opportunity for kids.

A Sense of Usefulness: Being helpful to others and taking responsibility for themselves and their Club makes kids feel they are important in their community. The Club helps kids feel useful.

A Sense of Power and Influence: Kids make choices about what they will do each day at their Club. There are many activities in which they can participate, and the choice always lies with each member as to which activities and programs they participate in. This provides each a sense of power.

The opportunity to become leaders in Torch Club and Youth of the Month also allow them to have influence in their Club environment

These programs will help them prepare for and make it through the tough teen years by being a member of their Club and attending programs there regularly.

The Programs offered at our Club include:

Education & Job Readiness:

Power Hour: Homework Assistance

Learning Center: A place to play educational games, solve puzzles and learn academics in a fun way

Career Launch: A program where kids start taking an early look at the world of work, and what they might one day become, while learning the essentials of getting and keeping a job.

Technology: A special bank of 10 or more computers linked to the internet with adult supervision at each unit, allowing youth to explore the internet, learn, do their homework or personal research, but not be endangered of landing on a website their parents would not want them to see.

Recreation: Carpet ball, pool, hoops, board games, foosball and more provide opportunities for our kids to learn good sportsmanship, teamwork and how to have fun in a positive way.

Sports & Fitness: Dodge ball, basketball, baseball, tag and outdoor sports provide our kids with the opportunity to participate in a team or individual athletic activity, targeted toward their personal fitness and developing a life-long love of healthy activities that will keep them fit for many years to come.

The Arts:

Arts & Crafts: Projects are offered daily for kids to use their creativity in a fun way!

Fine Arts: Youth with artistic talent work with staff and volunteers to create works of art that are sometimes entered into regional competitions with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Youth utilize multiple media to create art.

Performing Arts: Youth perform plays, participate in talent shows and will soon be receiving music lessons on guitar from community volunteers!

Character & Leadership:

SMART Moves There are numerous programs in the SMART curricula. Girls at Their Best is the girls group; Passport to Manhood is for boys. These programs teach drug and alcohol resistance, gang and violence prevention, while helping kids learn about positive choices and being responsible. Our kids also participate in the original SMART Moves (Skills Mastering and Resistance Training) program.
